What is a Notary Public?

A Notary is a person of proven integrity appointed by the state to serve the public as an

official, impartial witness (can have no financial or beneficial interest in the transaction).

A Notary has the power to witness the signing of documents and to administer oaths. A

Notary ensures a signer’s identity and willingness to sign documents.

What to Bring to Identify a Document Signer:

Personal Identification that has your picture and signature:

• State-issued Driver’s License.

• State-issued identification card.

• U.S. Passport issued by the U.S. Department of State

• U.S. Military ID.

• State, county and local government IDs.

• Permanent resident card, or “green card,” issued by the U.S. Citizenship and

Immigration services.

OR

Personal Knowledge: The Notary Public has had sufficient interaction with the individual

over a period of time. That means it’s someone we know (family friend, co-worker etc.)

Credible Witness: The Notary Public knows the person serving as a credible identifying

witness and they in turn know and can verify the identity of a document signer. (This is

only when the document signer does not have personal identification).

Fees for Services:

For taking an acknowledgment, for the first signature of each signer $5.00

For each additional signature of each signer $2.50

For administering an oath or affirmation $2.50

For a certified copy $2.50

For a jurat, for each signature on the affidavit $5.00

Travel Fees will be either $10 or $25/hour plus notarization.

Please be advised that a Notary Public may refuse to perform a notarization if he or she

cannot be certain of a prospective signer’s identity, willingness, or understanding of what

is happening at that moment. In addition, a notary may not notarize a document in which

he or she has a financial interest.
